Będzin yesterday and today – photo display

In January 2018 I LO Kopernika got in touch with local institutions such as Historical Museum of Będzin, Province Library, Province Hall of Będzin as well as local businesses and activists.

In February 2018 students participated in a lecture given by the head of the Museum of Mieroszewski Palace Violetta Lisewska and the historians from the musem Joanna Kobryń and Adam Sygacz. The presentation included old photos of our town. The students learned about the history of Będzin , its historic buildings:the castle, Mieroszewski Palace, the House of Prayer Mizrach, St Trinity Church,the building of railway station as well as industrial buildings. After the lecture the students prepared a digital presentation “Będzin Yesterday and Today”

In March 2018 students took part in a workshop run by a local businessman and photographer Borkowski who collects photos of the old and modern Będzin.He revealed some technical details of how to take a good photo, taught the students the tricks of trade.

18th and 23rd April 2018 there were two workshops in Public Library of Będzin run by Alina Majeranek from the department of town archives. The main objective was to discover the history of the most interesting buildings and sites in Będzin (architecture, monuments, memorial plaques, landscape elements). The students worked with maps and various historical publications. They explored the archive collection from the library sources. They also made digital presentations about the chosen sites.

All the activities were carried out as preparation to Exhibition “Będzin yesterday and today”.

In the next stage the students took photos of some present day buildings in order to compare the old and present look of our town to reveal the process of transformation of the town. The results were displayed to the public in the Province Library and later in the Library department at the railway station of Będzin.

In June 2018 during Transnational Meeting in Poland the official opening of the exhibition took place.

Polish students , teachers from Poland, France and Spain, library staff, local activists took part in it. Tomasz Kostro an author , journalist and publicist gave a lecture about the history of Będzin.

PhD Dariusz Majchrzak presented industrial evolution of the region of Zagłębie.

During the mobility in Poland in October 2018 students from partner schools from France and Spain had a chance to see the exhibition. It was followed by a presentation of Rutka Laskier a Jewish girl from Będzin who died in a concentration camp in Auschwitz.
