The Presentation of Europass Certificate

Europass mobility is an official document meant to be a record of skills acquired during a learning experience in a European country. The certificates were awarded to the students during an official ceremony held in June 2019 in Będzin.

The ceremony was prticipated by local and school authorities, teachers cooperating with the project . It was an opportunity to summarise the results of the project, evaluate its good and bad points and to bring back the happy memories from mobilities to France, Spain and Poland while watching a photo presentation prepared by the students.

The meeting was followed by an informal exchange of ideas and conversations about the students’ impressions after finishing the Erasmus+ project.

Official closing ceremony

On Friday 4 October 2019, the students of the Erasmus+ project and their families, the teachers involved, the Principal and the project partners (Centre commercial Leclerc de Chantonnay and Archives départementales de la Vendée) were gathered to close the Erasmus+ 2017-2019 project.

This ceremony, organized around a convivial moment, was an opportunity to:

  • draw up an assessment of the actions carried out during these three years (week of exchanges, educational activities)
  • thank all the external partners (Centre commercial Leclerc de Chantonnay, Archives départementales de la Vendée, and mairie de Chantonnay) and staff of the school involved in the project for their involvement in this cultural project of European openness
  • distribute Europass to the project’s high school students, documents certified by the European Union that validate the skills acquired during the mobility carried out in Spain in Puertollano (April 2018) and in Poland in Bedzin (October 2018).

Draws the city of Chantonnay

After the photo competition organized by the high school students of the Erasmus+ project of the Georges Clemenceau high school, ( to be found here: https://cbp21.wordpress.com/2018/07/03/tell-me-the-story-of-chantonnay-photo-competition/ ) the students of the Literature and Society in Secondary School exploration course were integrated into the Erasmus+ project to draw the city of Chantonnay in the style of the great painters.

After conducting documentary research on the great Spanish painters, the Literature and Society students created artistic works based on the photos of the city of Chantonnay taken for the photo competition and inspired by the style of the great painters.

The drawings and photos were then exhibited in the library of the Georges Clemenceau high school. An election for the best design was organised during the Erasmus+ group’s welcome week in Chantonnay.

Chantonnay yesterday and today

As part of the media education course, the students of 1ES (2018-2019) of the Georges Clemenceau high school held a working session at the Vendée departmental archives in La Roche sur Yon, followed by documentary research on the history, economic activities and social and spatial transformations of the city of Chantonnay.
At the same time, they met with the urban planning assistant of the city of Chantonnay and visited the site of the redevelopment of the city centre of Chantonnay. They also interviewed elderly people, as well as the person in charge of the cinema.
With this information, they produced a special issue of their newspaper L’oeil du Tigre.

Transformation of my town Będzin (Articles written by Polish students)

Housing (by Paulina Czerwińska)

Today, Będzin is not a really good place to live in for our generation. Old destroyed buildings and tenement houses long ago amazing and eye-catching, now deters people from living there. In Będzin, there is also a small amount of tourists probably due to collapsed, neglected buildings and unattractive area around the city. Additionally, residents of this town are not proud of their place of living. But can we change that? Let’s make this place more beautiful and attractive for both residents and visitors. There are a few ideas how to improve architecture and the living conditions in Będzin.

Firstly, the town council should consider renovating old buildings. People prefer living in well-maintained houses and flats which look neat and stylish. All uninhabited and neglected places should be demolished.

Secondly, the renting of apartments should be more affordable especially for students and young people. As a result university students and young residents would like to live there and maybe settle in. Today the payment is too high ,so they can’t afford to rent it that’s why they prefer to commute to school by bus or train. We need new, eco-friendly ideas to attract the youngest, promote this place-showing attractive ” housing solutions” , change the present housing conditions and integrate more local community to improve the image of Będzin.

Finally, we should raise young people awareness not to destroy renovated building by putting on “graffiti”, teach them responsibility for their common goods and take care of their local area. On the other hand, it would help to convince the town council to invest in housing infrastructure and introduce new law to get better the living conditions for all the inhabitants. Satisfied people could contribute to successful urban development of Bedzin. In order to obtain this aim both the authorities and the residents need to cooperate with each other, otherwise nothing will change.

The youth (by Mateusz Kopczyński)

The city of Będzin should be equipped with some more advanced amenities for young people. Their type will depend on what the goal is expected. If we want the youth to just have fun, building sport facilities, playgrounds or organizing concerts, festivals, can be a good option. Yet, if the aim is to increase their academic or work opportunities, such things as language courses or career advisement would be a better idea.

Firstly, investing in new sports facilities can attract sports-oriented teenagers and give them an opportunity to professional sport development but it also takes the risk of high costs of maintenance and the chance of being devastated by hooligans (as it often happens). What’s more, concerts, open-air festival and picnics promoting the cities are very popular among teenagers and inhabitants. Such events give an opportunity to integrate the local community but on the other hand it raises the question about spending public money on entertainment than more necessary needs like local infrastructure.

On the other hand, previously mentioned courses of languages or other skills like computer seem to be more reasonable options for our generation, as they give the youth outlook for future and better work perspectives. Investing for the educational future of the youth can influence the living conditions of all the population and provide better technological development.

In other words, there is no ideal solution how to find the compromise but I think that perfect balance between entertainment and self-development, physical and mental training will create our town a good place to settle in and for the youth to invest their future here.

The elderly (by Kinga Lazar)

Older people have better life now than in the past in Będzin. For example, public transport. In the past it was hard for them  because buses were not adapted to older and weak people (people in wheelchairs) or tickets were too expensive. Now we have various aids, for instance special places in the bus for them or discounts on tickets. If they are retired or they have a lot of free time they can sign up for a senior club. This club organizes a lot of trips and attractions. Now they can also attend different courses e.g. about how to use computer etc. City organizes various games and festivals for them so they are not bored.

I have my own idea for a better life for them too. For example , they should have priority in shops, more places just for them( parks etc) and cheaper tickets everywhere.

Sustainable growth (by Kamil Wyszyński)

To improve ecology in Będzin we should build more green places like: parks. Also we can try to do something with emission of CO2 to the atmosphere by changing coal burners to bio fuel house heaters. And to save heat we have to change old windows to the new ones which will not let the heat go out of the house.

Transport (by Paulina Pączkowska)

Nowadays public transport is well developed. We have a lot of possibilities to travel for instance by buses, trams or trains. It is really easy for us to visit the neighbouring cities. We prefer using our public transport since it is so much cheaper and it takes less time than using our cars because there are usually trafic jams. Thanks to special lane on the road for buses, we have a better and faster option to get to the destination.  Also, we have a special bus for longer trips. For example ,we have a direct bus to Cracow for little money. What is more, if we are students we have additional discounts which may additionally encourage us to use public transport.

On the other hand, of course it could be better. For instace, there should be more buses to small cities or even villages because our friends sometimes have a problem to back home when they want. They have to plan everything always thinking about bus timetable. Maybe if we the buses ran more frequently, we would use them more often. Next issue which would change a lot is ecological, hybrid transport. Thanks to this, we will be able to care for the environment more. We will have the opportunity to breathe fresh air. We’ll just feel better. Another suggestion is to encourage young people to use bicycles as we have a lot of cycle paths. Thanks to that people could stay fit and be more healthy. More and more people deicide to choose this option.

The disabled (by Julia Mosur)

Nowadays infrastructure in our cities for disabled is better than it was five or ten years later. People started thinking more often about disabled persons, how their normal day looks like with all those difficulties when they ,for example, can’t go to the bank because there are only stairs and they need to struggle with their wheelchair.

In bigger cities it is more frequent to see conveniences for disabled, but not everywhere. It’s sad that many people because of their disability can’t do many things that they like or what they would like to try.

In the future our cities should change. More options in public transports like trams for people on wheelchair, in public places like banks or pharmacies also one employee should know sign language. Maybe not only the infrastructure should change more, people should not treat disabled people as somebody worse only because he can’t walk, talk or see.

The society should be widely open for everybody. There are many places where we can open special places for disabled people to meet up, talk, get to know each other etc. There is no place for discrimination. We are all the same and we should treat each other as we want to be treated.

In conclusion, we all should make some plans for better future for anyone. Make it simple for everybody.

Reading Challenge

The reading challenge has several objectives:
– develop a taste for reading by offering attractive readings on the theme of the Erasmus project (the city)
– promote communication and develop group spirit by offering a challenge between the different institutions
– share a common culture (literary and urban culture) through the discovery of texts and heritage sites of each country and institution

The reading challenge has been prepared by each partner school. Thus, each establishment has chosen a book (novel) that deals with the city, whose action is located in a city…..
Selected books :
– for France: Have mercy on all us, by Fred Vargas
– for Spain: The time in between, by Maria Duenas
– for Poland: Rutka’s notebook, by Rutka Laskier

Each high school selects extracts from its novel and transmits them to other schools in English.

Here are the excerpts selected by the Georges Clemenceau high school in the novel Have mercy on all us :

Students must:
1 – read the entire novel chosen by their high school, and read extracts from the other novels offered by the partner schools

2 – From a list of questions on books prepared by the teachers, the students (in groups) must answer as many questions as possible on foreign books and foreign books. Two teams are winners. Here is the list of questions :

3 – participate in a reading rally with several tests to discover in the Clemenceau high school, in groups of 4 (mixing French, Polish and Spanish high school students) in a minimum of time, like an escape game. Four teams are winners.
